I wanted to make a post about our new book, because I discovered something last night after our meeting. We decided on Mindset: The New Psychology of Success, by Carol Dweck. Here's that youtube video I referenced, the first experience with this idea I'd had:
The thing is, when I pulled the book off my shelf and took a closer look I realized...it's 246 pages long! And it's not like a textbook, but I don't think it's the sort you can zoom through in one afternoon. Unless you're a lot faster than me. :)
If you DON'T want to buy it: The Springville Library does have a copy; it said it was "In Transit." I don't think it has any holds on it, either; at least as far as I can tell. I also own a copy, and am hoping to be done with it in a week (or sooner, we'll see I guess) and then would be happy to lend it out. The BYU Library has two copies but they're both checked out right now! Arg. I am going to ask my mom if she could place a hold on one for me, since one is due back in a week, and then I could get that circulating within our group too. My dad might be able to get the other BYU copy also...but it isn't due back until January 25th, so that'd only be if it was returned quite early. And the Provo Library has three copies, but none are available and the hold list is 10 people long, so that option doesn't seem really likely either.
If you ARE ok with buying (It's just under $10 on Amazon), or happen to know someone who already has it...would you be willing to share your copy after you're done? And possibly let it be known by commenting on here, or something, so everyone knows where they could get a copy? I think that's the only way a good number of us will have a chance to complete it (or even make good headway) before the meeting next month.
I hope this isn't adding one more stress to everyone's already stressful Christmas seasons! I just figured it'd be informative to know you will need to try to give yourself a bit of time to read it if you'd been planning to, rather than find out yourself the morning of our meeting and be unpleasantly surprised. It's okay if you don't pick it up till then too, but I want you to have some advance notice. I'm thinking a week is reasonable, if you're doing 35 pages a day...but I really don't know how fast you all read so more or less time might be necessary.
Merry Christmas, see you in a month hopefully either way! -Ariel

I bought a copy and it's set to arrive Monday. I'm happy to share when I finish reading it. :)
The Springville library copy that was "in transit" was on its way to the holding shelf for me :) I will pick it up this weekend--and then I can either keep it 'til it's due and give someone else a chance to read it, or I can return it ASAP if someone else puts it on hold and will be next in line for it. So if you've placed it on hold, let me know and I'll make sure to get it back in as soon as I finish it.
