The next, next book club book...

Maybe this is kind of early to be thinking about this...but I was wondering if we might want to vote now on the next month's reading. If we pick one now, then I can reserved the set through the Provo Library and I could actually bring copies for everyone to our October get together. (But if it's too soon to vote on it, that's okay, too...just thought I'd offer this as an option.)

There are several available (you can check out our list, as well as availability on our book club calender). From what's available, three that I'd be interested in reading would be:

Rules of the Road (contemporary, realistic young adult) Jenna gets a job as a driver for an older lady who owns a chain of shoes stores; as Jenna drives her to confront her adult son who is trying to force her into retirement, Jenna also begins to deal with the poor relationship she has with her alcoholic father. (I've read this one and really like it; Joan Bauer is one of my favorite authors for young adults.)

Penny from Heaven: a teen historical fiction; As she turns twelve during the summer of 1953, Penny gains new insights into herself and her family while also learning a secret about her father's death. (I read this one a few years ago so I'm a little vague on the details, but Jennifer Holm is one of my favorite middle grade fiction authors and I really like her historical fiction)

Seabiscuit (adult nonfiction); this is the book that inspired the movie; I haven't actually read it but I really liked the author's new nonfiction book (Unbroken) and have heard great things about this one.

So....does anyone want to vote already and then I can just get the set for the group? :)

Ooh, all three sound great. I lean towards the first two because I love young adult novels, but it never hurts to stretch my boundaries and read a "grown-up" book. :) Sorry my vote isn't very helpful...

They all do sound good! Great idea to do this early. Then we don't have to put it off all night when we meet in October. :) I think my vote would be for "Penny from Heaven," but like Lorene I would be happy with any of them. Thanks Adrienne--we are so glad you have joined our group!!!
